The Presence: 21 Day Devotional: Day 3

DAY #3

Key Verse:
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8  NIV
Extended Text:
Deuteronomy 31:1-8
Reflection:
After 40 years, the desert was in the rear-view mirror. And as Moses prepared to pass his mantle of leadership to Joshua, he spoke words that would echo through generations: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deut. 31:8, NIV). These words were initially for Joshua alone, but they have also inspired all who follow God’s call into unknown places.

God’s presence is not passive, nor is it just in our past; He goes before us. Before we face challenges, He is already there. Before we step into new seasons, He has prepared the way. Like Israel standing on the edge of the Promised Land, we may feel unqualified, uncertain, or even afraid. But the assurance of His presence gives us courage.

At times, it may seem like we are walking into the unknown, but nothing is unknown to God. His presence is not only ahead of us but with us—guiding, strengthening, and sustaining us. As we prepare to gather for this year’s SoCal Network Conference, let us remember: we do not walk alone. The Presence of the Lord is our confidence, our peace, and our power.

Therefore, be strong. Be courageous. The Presence of the Lord goes before you.
3 Questions To Consider:
  1. Where in your life do you feel uncertain or afraid, and how does the promise of God’s presence give you courage to move forward?
  2. Moses assured Joshua that God had already gone before him—how can you remind yourself daily that God is ahead of you, preparing the way?
  3. What step of faith is God calling you to take, knowing that His presence will never leave you nor forsake you?

I like that you wrote, “He goes before us. Before we face challenges, He is already there. Before we step into new seasons, He has prepared the way.” The idea that God is eternally present is trippy! In our past, He is present. In our present, He is present. And, in our future, He is present. God exists always in the NOW! He is present at this year’s conference, before we even arrive.

His Word “His Presence” is the lamp that illuminates our presence and His Word is the light which illuminates our path.

I like the thought...

n

n"it may seem like we are walking into the unknown, but nothing is unknown to God"

n

nAlthough I may be walking into the unknown from my perspective, nothing is unknown to God. As I remain in His presence, I have the company and guidance of the One who already knows the way through the "unknown".
