The SoCal Network (as prescribed by our insurance partners) is moving forward in compliance with the new volunteer requirements for working with minors as outlined in AB 506. Unless something drastically changes this year, these requirements will be mandatory for all Network wide events where minors are involved.
As 2022 Network wide camps and gatherings are eminent, and depth of AB 506 compliance is dependent on processes and time, individual churches and the Network will be moving forward in full compliance during 2022. As for pending 2022 minor-impacting gatherings, churches will continue to fulfill their current vetting processes (fingerprinting and using an agency to verify criminal record) to be certified by the lead Pastor

NOTE: The Senior Pastor or an appointed representative must complete the pastor certification form for every adult attending. By signing the form the church/pastor is stating that the volunteer is cleared and that the church is accepting responsibility for the background check being reviewed, the training being completed and that the applicant is cleared and able to serve as Camp Counselor at a Network Camp.
Each applicant (age 18 or older) must fill out an online Volunteer Application Form, have a Live Scan Background Check (including fingerprinting & running those prints against the State of California’s criminal database) performed by their church AND complete 2 hours of Mandated Reporter Training (in compliance with AB 506). There are no exceptions to this rule.
Churches, in order for your volunteers to get background checked, they will need to be provided with an ORI number on their "Request for Live Scan Form" BEFORE they can go down to get a live scan background check. This process can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks so it is advisable for you to start now. How do you apply for an ORI? You must go to the Department of Justice Website and search for Applicant Agencies. This will give you instructions on how to apply for the ORI. http://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/agencies or email "appagencyquestions@doj.ca.gov."
